This is a design for an article about the history of policing in Isla Vista. The author compared the student BLM march to the protests in the 1970s, noting that the response from law enforcement has not changed much within the 50-year time span. To support the argument in her article, I sourced archived photographs of the riots that took place in Isla Vista during the Vietnam War. I also obtained permission to use photos of the recent march through campus. In each collage, I juxtaposed photo journalism with graffiti of protest rhetoric to illustrate the multiple sides of activism redacted or publicized during periods of political turmoil.
